Glenrothes - The Economic Hub of Fife

riverside park glenrothes fifeBackground - Glenrothes is located right in the middle of Fife and east of Scotland. It is the administrative capital of Fife with both head offices of the towns' Constabulary and City Council. It houses a population of an approximately 38 927. The new town of Glenrothes was build primarily for the mining community, working on the coal mining operations in the town in the late 1950's. The town plan initially catered for a population of maximum 35 000 people. The town developers' goals with the town was to "establish a self-contained and balanced community for working and living".

Major economic activity.

The town boasts with major electronics companies with the latest and greatest technology as well as the largest shopping centre in the whole of Scotland. The town is also heavily dependent upon light industry.

Shopping - If you are a shopaholic then you are in the right place. The largest shopping centre in Scotland is located in this little modern gem. The Kingdom Centre boasts with more than 100 shops including a bowling alley, theatre, library and restaurants. The towns' primary bus station is also conveniently located next to the southeast end of mall.
Must-see's.
The town has various attractions that you just cannot miss-out on including churches, sculptures, buildings and bridges. Fife House and Raeburn are major landmark structures and can be seen from miles away. The Giant Irises and Gateway Totum are the most popular town sculptures. St. Margaret's, St. Paul's RC and St. Colimba's Churches are great tourist attractions. St. Paul's RC is acclaimed as being most modern piece of architecture north of English channel.
Transportation.
You can make use of trains, ferry's, buses and aeroplanes to get to and around Glenrothes. Especially the train transportation system is greatly developed and advanced.
Weather - The towns' weather is crisp and refreshing even in summer months, reaching minimum of 9C and maximum 18C. Remember to pack lots of warm woollies for your trip or visit to the town, especially if you are use to tropical or sub-tropical climates.
