Anstruther - The Fish Heritage of Fife

Anstruther is a charming little town, situated in Fife, Scotland. It was originally, Scotland's finest fishery many years back. With the disappearance of the North Herrings, this little town relies on Tourism and boasts of its rich fishy past. This town is also known as 'Little Stream' derived from the Scottish word 'Enster', since right in the middle of this town runs a stream called the Dreel Burn.

All around this dear town you will see preserves of the excellent, well organised working of the fisheries. Near the ports are remodelled cottages belonging to owners of the fisheries who are more than willing to display their prided heritage.

This town has a population of about 3500 and maintains its calm with the warmth of its inhabitants. It serves as a main shopping area to the visitors and has a number of inherited delicious places to eat. A special never-to-be-missed restaurant in Anstruther is the award winning 'Anstruther Fish Bar' which won the title of 'Fish and Chip of the year award for two consecutive times in the recent years.

Tourist attractions include fascinating trips to the harbour aboard the 'May Princess' and various other boating activities. The famous 'Secret Bunker of Scotland' is found here which offer an exclusive and interesting tour of the underground centre built during the nuclear war. This bunker was only discovered recently, until which it was still in secrecy.

This town inspired its first light house with burning coal to signal the lost boats at the harbour. Leisure activities include boating and harbour activities, museums, golf clubs, unique architecture, ancient chapels and an ultimate refreshing holiday.

The flora and fauna is rich and varied, due to the suitable climate Anstruther has to offer. One may find a distinct variety of birds and a good number of them. The coast is home to the grey seals and cheerful dolphins dominate the waters.
